Along with players involved with the sport, we also require technical manpower to help the sport grow. In the
path to develop, Nepal Hockey has sought the assistance of International Olympic committee and Asian Hockey
Federation. It has to be noted that it is the first time that Nepal Hockey has been able to conduct coaches and
Umpires certification training for participants.
IOC Olympic Solidarity Level 1 coaching course was successfully conducted in August 2023 with about 40
participants. The next phase of level 2 due to start in December 2023 bring in new energetic coaches that will
help young athletes and grow Hockey activities in the country.
Along with qualified coaches, we will also need umpires to help the sport. As until now, due to lack of trained
and qualified umpires, we have relied on umpires from India to conduct our local tournaments. With aim to
develop our qualified umpires, we sought technical assistance from International Hockey Federation and Asian
Hockey Federation to conduct umpire training in November 2023.
We have recently successfully conducted FIHA – AHF Level 1 Umpire training for our budding umpires. This will
provide them with much needed knowledge, on field- training and certification to help the sport. About 35
participants took part for the first phase of umpire training.
Producing qualified local Nepalese umpires will put an end to our dependency on umpires from India to conduct
our local domestic tournaments.
