1995 South Asian Federation (SAF) Games

This can be considered Nepal men’s team first international hockey tournament. The tournament was held at Madras (Chennai) 1995 where the Nepal’s men’s team finished 5th India – Gold, Pakistan – Silver, Bangladesh – Bronze, Srilanka – 4th and Nepal 5th)

2010 SAF games

Nepal’s men’s team participated in the 2010 South Asian Games, held at Dhaka, Bangladesh. Although they could not achieve podium position, this tournament was a learning experience for a new and young team playing after a long hiatus in the international scene.  

2016 South Asian Games

Nepal Women’s team first participation at an international tournament was at the 2016 South Asian games, Guwahati, India. This could be considered a milestone tournament where the girls secured bronze medals in their first international event.

2018 Haier Cup

Haier Cup Men’s hockey tournament held at Lahore, Pakistan in 2018 was the first FIH approved tournament participated by Nepal. Not only were the men’s team able to secure bronze medals, this tournaments also paved way for Nepal to be introduced in the world hockey ranking system. At the time upon the completion of the tournament, Nepal Men’s were ranked 84 (current Ranking 77 – July 2023).

2019 Men’s and women’s indoor Asia cup

The men’s and women’s indoor hockey tournament was Nepal’s first tournament in the indoor hockey, a new format which is gaining popularity. Both men’s and women’s teams participated in the tournament held at Chonburi, Thailand. Although both teams were unable to achieve podium position, this tournament proved to be a learning experience in a new format for both men’s and women’s team playing their first international indoor tournament. This also induced both the teams in the ranking system of the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

HRH Queen Zara Women’s Indoor Hockey Tournament

Nepal’s women’s team was invited to participate in the HRH Queen Zara Indoor women’s hockey tournament held at Kuala kangsar, Malaysia in November 2019. The 5 nation tournament was another learning opportunity for the girls who performed well having confirmed their participation in the tournament just only with few days of training. (Uzbek, Malaysia. Taipei, Philippines and Nepal)
